About Shannon

Hi,
Shan HansenI’m Shannon Hansen, a NZAC provisionally registered counsellor based in Rodney. I offer counselling for adults and children, with a special focus on helping clients process adverse childhood experiences.

I believe many people turn to counselling when they feel they're at a crossroads in life. As a counsellor, I strive to create a warm and welcoming space where people are truly seen and heard. I view the counselling relationship as a precious bond. It's truly an honour to walk alongside individuals as they work through their challenges and sometimes painful journeys. I am committed to confidentiality, respect, genuine kindness, and heartfelt empathy to support you on this journey.

While I practice traditional talk therapy, I also offer more creative approaches. If it suits you, we can cook together or explore sandplay, symbol work, and play-based approaches. This medium allows people of all ages to express their deeper thoughts through mindful tasks and symbolism in a relaxed environment.

I was born in Auckland and have spent most of my life in West Auckland. In 2022, I relocated to Warkworth, north of Auckland, with my husband and young adult children. My children have since spread their wings, and I now have a large Leonberger dog that keeps me busy. Before becoming a counsellor, I worked in adult education, including a role at a large international company, which taught me a lot about the challenges of balancing work and life in a demanding, ever-changing environment.
